Earth Day is a Birthday! Earth Day was born on April 22, 1970, in San Francisco, CA. Every year, America and over 100 different countries join together in the celebration of Earth Day on April 22 and is the largest, most celebrated environmental event worldwide. We remember to appreciate nature and learn ways to protect our environment. Find ways that you can help keep the planet clean and help protect our environment! 

Earth Day for Kids 2017 — all month long the DEEP (Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection) invites you to participate in events honoring our Earth – find one for you! All events and activities are free and open to the public, except where noted. 

Party for the Planet at your local zoo this weekend.  Go learn what you can do to make the planet a healthier place for your family at Roger Williams Park Zoo celebration only 1 hour away in Providence, Rhode Island.  Or at Mystic Aquarium on the way…Pack a lunch and eat on the picnic tables outside! Buy local items, sustainable seafood, and organic produce at local stores and farms; Whole Foods Market hosts kids events all week.

Thursday, 4/20 Skygazing at Talcott Mountain Science Center & Academy

Friday, 4/21 in Unionville (Farmington) Culteavo tea shop hosts a recycling activity for all ages! A great excuse to check out this welcoming and chill place offering tasty organic treats.

Saturday, 4/22 Connecticut Science Center hosts a celebration of exploration and the opening of the rooftop garden (weather permitting)! Learn more about the activities 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Ansonia Nature Center Earth Day Celebration for lectures, hikes, crafts, live animals and more. FREE

Woodbury Earth Day FREE

South Windsor Fishing Derby for ages 16 and under FREE

       Connecticut Audubon Society Earth Fair, a family day full of fun with Birds of Prey, snakes, Maypole dance, Peter Pan Players, arts and crafts and more.

Saturday, 4/29 another FREE and educational event with Energize Connecticut.

Lastly on Sunday, April 30 head to Fairfield’s Earth Day for a day of family fun!
